  • Electrical Engineer

    Drax is the owner and operator of the largest coal fired power station in the UK, supplying around 7% of the UK’s electricity, and for the last 12 months we have produced more renewable power than any other UK facility.     Reporting to the Engineering E C & I Section Head, the successful applicant will be expected to work across all electrical equipment, undertaking various activities and taking responsibility.

    Main duties include:

    • Management of Generator overhaul and repairs
    • Switchgear maintenance
    • Transformer overhaul and repairs
    • Assisting in the development and implementation of maintenance strategies, plant improvements, and working methods
    • Provide technical and safety guidance and support for the maintenance teams
    • Management and specification of contracts, QA and spares
    • Plant inspections and fault diagnosis, ensuring work is carried out to the appropriate standards
    • Liaison with suppliers, manufacturers, and other business units
    • Develop and manage budgets

    Qualifications:

    • The successful applicant will have five to ten years relevent experience and be able to demonstrate a sound general knowledge of power plant and systems, underpinned ideally by technical qualifications to HNC or degree level. The ideal candidate will also be a member of an appropriate professional institution or be willing to work towards such membership.
    • The successful applicant must have strong organisational skills, be self-motivated, able to work on their own initiative and be able to solve problems logically, quickly, and confidently.
    • The successful applicant will have a track record of achievement through team work.

  • Lead Engineer Safety and Outage

    Reporting directly to the Safety and Outage Section Head, the Lead Engineer Safety and Outage will provide Safety, Outage, Contracts, Projects, Training advice and support to the business.

    Main duties include:

    • Responsible for the management and continuous improvement of all aspects of the Health, Safety & Contract Services Teams
    • Provide leadership in establishing procedures and processes to deliver compliance with UK H&S legislation
    • Responsible for the provision of professional Health & Safety (H&S) advice and establishing and delivering the H&S Audit Plan and the FPO Audit Plan
    • Provide support in delivering the effective communication of the Weekly Safety Briefing to all staff and contractors working on the Drax site, Annual Safety Conference and Supervisory Briefs
    • Take a lead role in supporting Maintenance and Eng Section Heads in developing Health & Safety improvement programmes across all Plant Areas
    • Provides support for all outage activities including the overall outage performance 
    • Take a lead role for developing and coordinating a 4, 8 and 12 year horizon for the outage activity and development of the outage strategy
    • Responsible for the development of Outage ‘best practices’ and ensure that they are complied with
    • Take a lead role in developing an open and dynamic collaborative relationship with the key Outage contractors, focusing on improvement and delivery
    • Take a lead role in developing Project Management best practices across all Production functions and optimising internal and external resources and expertise
    • Responsible for the stewardship and governance of Project and Modification management systems, and ensuring that procedures are simple and fit for purpose
    • Ensure all training Requirements are fulfilled for Production (circa 500) in respect of Legislative Compliance and technical training.  Providing simple and effective stewardship reports to SHEPIC as required
    • Ensure that all Projects are CDM Compliant

    AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

    • Act as a stand in for the Outage & Safety Section Head when required
    • Work closely with the HSE to ensure an effective business relationship
    • Work closely with other managers to ensure safety related systems are simple and practical to operate, and that all training needs are defined, understood, planned and delivered
    • Maintain safety records to meet legislative and commercial requirements
    • Lead health and safety incident investigation for the company
    • Coordinate Field Performance Officer and Safety Advisors work activities and audits to ensure value is added
    • Work with Contract Owners to ensure that contractors are working to required safety, operational and environmental standards
    • Through strong leadership and example, ensure that the company’s Health & Safety Management Systems are understood at all levels of the organisation
    • Foster an environment of data driven continuous improvement at all times
    • Engage employees and contractors in safety issues and set high personal standards through a highly visible, hands-on style
    • Through strong leadership and influencing skills ensure that adequate levels of resources are assigned to outage work activities across the functions throughout the year
       

     

    Qualifications:

    Candidate Requirements:

    • Relevant HNC/HND/Degree qualified and/or appropriately experienced
    • Significant experience in Power Station operations, maintenance and engineering is essential
    • A credible leader with the ability to communicate at all levels of the organisation
    • Excellent team working and influencing skills
    • Ability to mentor, coach, encourage, hold people accountable and set high standards in all aspects of mechanical engineering
    • Strong analytical skills and the ability to apply sound business and commercial knowledge in the mechanical engineering area
    • Highly motivated with good communication and leadership skills
    • Must be able to quickly adapt to changing business needs and possess good business and commercial skills and provide solutions to problems logically and quickly
    • Support the line manager
