    They are currently looking to recruit a Site Machinist, Mechanical Craftsman

    The Site Machinist - Mechanical Craftsman reports to a Supervising Engineer and is responsible for undertaking the Site machining and mechanical fitting activities on dedicated areas of the plant within an overhaul or breakdown team. Within the team the Site machinist - Mechanical Craftsman will be responsible for: safety of themselves and Co-workers, task completion, quality of workmanship, quality control and self-management.

    Technical Responsibilities

    •             To work within multi-disciplined teams with minimal supervision in the provision and support of machining and fitting activities both on site and within the workshop environment.

    •             Ensure compliance with agreed quality assurance requirements, promote and maintain a quality ethos.

    •             Maintain company Technical standards.

    •             Responsible for monitoring quality of less experienced team members

    •             To provide technical support and guidance to other less experienced team members

    •             Ensure delivery of all short term and emergency work

    •             Develop complementary machining/fitting skills that enable a multi-disciplinary approach to work activities

    •             To be responsible for housekeeping activities associated with allocated tasks

    •             To be responsible for care and maintenance of tools and equipment used in allocated work activities.

    •             To be responsible for the efficient use of items stored within an `open stores or satellite` environment

     Commercial Responsibilities

    •             Be aware of current practises and procedures adopted in the generating utilities.

    •             Undertake the outage work safely while mindful of cost.

    •             Ensure that all problems with work are resolved promptly and ensure that additional work is identified and dealt with correctly

    People Responsibilities

    •             Have a good technical knowledge of mechanical systems, plant and equipment in a generating utility company

    •             Have a good practical understanding of rotating plant namely Steam Turbines, CCGT, OCGT, CHP or Hydro plant or a combination of each

    •             Be proficient, qualified and have a sound track record in good mechanical machining and fitting procedures and practices

    •             Be familiar with the use of metric and imperial measuring equipment including but not limited to internal and external micrometers, slip gauges etc.

    •             Be suitable qualified in Safety awareness and be proactive in promoting safety with their peers

    •             A conscientious employee giving attention to the detail of work undertaken

    •             Proactive and self-motivated

    •             Adopt a flexible approach to project working and operational requirements.

    Qualifications:

    •             Usually a 4 year formal Mechanical Apprenticeship

The Outage Section of the business has a history of successfully completing a large number of Steam and Gas Turbine outages internally and for external customers. The Outage Section teams travel extensively throughout the UK and Overseas working on large turbo-generators, CCGT’s, Hydro, CHP plants and power plant work including Balance of Plant and C.W. Systems.

    As the Outage Section continues to grow, with major projects already scheduled for 2018, 2019 and beyond the team are looking for suitably qualified, experienced and ambitious individuals.     The Role

    Working as a key member of the outage management team the Planning Engineer has a central role in ensuring that outage preparation and delivery is carried out in line with the Gated Process and Outage Planning Philosophy ensuring the successful completion of the outage, having accountability for all pre outage planning activities and implementation of suitable monitoring and intervention to allow robust evaluation of the impact of delays and changes to an outage programme. The Planning Engineer will advise the Outage Manager on the appropriate mitigation to minimise commercial impact to the business caused by outage overruns and extensions.

    The role links across multiple disciplines within each power station including Maintenance, Engineering and Operations. As well as linking stations with Engineering and Inspection Management. Carrying out planning activities for all these functions.

    The role will have time constraints to project work as well as requirements to travel to different locations as the projects require. Work with the POMS group to support evaluation and determination of best placement of portfolio outages based on optimised resource profiles and outage plan risks.

    Work with the Outage Quality Manager, ensuring full alignment of the Quality Management System and the outage plan.

    Principle Accountabilities

    ·         Assist WPM’s to determine resource levels required to deliver outage Workscope in given timescales.

    ·         Carry out critical path analysis, and monitor these during the delivery phase of the project to assist with managing priorities.

    ·         Provide the necessary information to the Outage Safety Rules Coordinator and Commissioning Manager to allow for cascade planning.

    ·         Assist with the Development of the Outage Risk Register.

    ·         Update the plan to ensure progress is understood and to identify movement in the key dates and key deliverables, ensuring the causes of changes are fully identified and communicated to allow for mitigation to be put in place.

    ·         Carry out communication tasks identified in the Planning Philosophy Document:

    ·         Produce Twice Weekly Progress Reports

    ·         Generate ad-hoc progress reports as issues arise

    ·         Provide support to the WPM’s to evaluate changes in Workscope to feed into the change management process.

    ·         Produce up to date resource profiles to allow work pack managers to control costs.

    ·         Review all variance from baseline plan and integrate any identified changes into draft plans.

    ·         Support the development and training of others in the planning philosophy and best practice.

    ·         Support and play a proactive role in the Project Management and Planning Network Group.

    Qualifications:

    ·         The role requires a minimum of a HNC in a relevant technical qualification, as well as a suitable project planning qualification such as APM Project Management Qualification. The role requires experience running large projects in a heavy engineering field. The ability to develop concepts into practice and robust processes and procedures and influence change are key skills that are required in this role

    ·         Experience of working on GT26 Gas Turbine outages would be beneficial.

    Reporting to the Engineering Section Head, and whilst on outage the Task Manager, The Senior Engineer is responsible for the technical standards of a project, the organisation of resources, quality and compliance for all aspects of safety. Must have an overview of the whole project and will report to the Engineering Section Head.

    The Senior Engineer will be expected to deputise for the Engineering Section Head in his absence or the Site Task Manager.

    Principal Accountabilities:

    Customer management

    ·         Act as the day to day technical representative with the station

    ·         Maintain good working and personal relationships with the client representatives on the project

    ·         Proven track record of delivering major outage work to a high standard

    ·         Ability to lead groups of engineers and supervisors

    An opportunity exists for a highly motivated and safety aware C&I craftsman who has proven skills to join the Maintenance delivery team at our clients coal fired power station where you would be undertaking routine maintenance, repairing defected plant and delivering outage work as efficiently and effectively as possible.

    A control and instrumentation craftsman shall have the following attributes:

    • Has previous power station experience in this field.
    • Strong focus and proven personal safety record
    • Completed a relevant Engineering Apprenticeship or equivalent

    Has the ability to use a variety of test equipment to diagnose faults on control systems & control loops, field based transmitters (pressure, flow, temperature etc) resistance thermometers & thermocouples. Be able to read and interpret P&ID drawings and design specifications to ensure correct operation of instrumentation systems.

    To undertake in house training to “Nominated Competent Person” able to work within site safety rules in a safe and appropriate manner whilst understanding the scope of the work and its stated limitations. Have the ability to work within a team environment, be proactive, a good communicator.

    Have a flexible working ethos and can adapt their working times in alignment with the demands of 24/7 power generation and availability to ensure key outage programme dates are met. 

    Qualifications:

    Key skill requirements

    • Technical attributes to undertake fault diagnosis and repairs of level, pressure and temperature transmitters/devices
    • Technical attributes to use Beamex calibrator and record data from calibrations
    • Validate control loops through to point of computer interface
    • Technical attributes to undertake fault diagnosis and repairs of water quality instrumentation with particular focus on flow meters, turbidity, and residual chlorine.
